Carlo's Pond
May 2006

My favorite pond side plant- GLADIOLAS! These are planted in the dirt, just outside of the small stream run.

Loved this picture with the white OGON KOI hovering above JOE BLACK. JOE BLACK is a fish that is the result of what can happen when KOI and GOLDFISH interbreed. The result is called a MULE FISH. MULE FISH often have a mixture of both parents when it comes to physical traits but carry over none of the pretty color or scalation.

Red dragon (large red koi with white fins) is always in the feeding frenzy eager to vacuum up food! Should have named him HOOVER ;)
Picture

This fish (JOE BLACK) has tiny barbels, not as long as a true koi, he has a V-cut tail elongated more than a koi but more like a goldfish.
He also has paddle fins, more like a goldfish than a koi and is completely black, with tiny scales almost giving the appearance of slick skin like a catfish!
Picture

Big 18inch longfin orange and black speckle koi that was a cull from John’s pond. Did not have the heart to cull him a 2nd time ;) The smaller orange fish beside him to the right is a fish I bought off EBAY!

Fishy faces.
Picture

One of the many large red dragonflies that finds its preferred lofty perch above the pond on a gladiola spike.
Picture

How in the world these koi know there are pellets on top of the lily pads... I DUNNO?!?! There is one YELLOW OGON that has learned to launch herself on top to knock off the pellets. She has no fear of being out of the water if it means more food ;)
Picture

The calm after the storm. Shubunkin goldfish and kuhaku koi buddy.

A little computer enhancement through Photoshop to make this picture look like an oil painting.
